The squirrel swished his tail in reproach and chattered angrily from his tree at the invading two-legs. The two-legs turned its blank face up but did not move away. The squirrel gave one last warning chirrup and vanished inside its nest. The two-legs did not leave. It unshouldered a heavy bag made of the nasty-bad-tasting black material and dropped it beside the trunk of the tree. The squirrel poked its head out and watched, for the moment without scolding. The two-legs was burying food for winter. The squirrel cocked its head. It knew it could remember the huge hole the two-legs was making for the food inside the bad-tasting bag.

Inspiration: None.
Story Potential: Very low.
Finished Length: Long short story or rather dark children's novel.
Notes: There's a body inside the plastic bag. I'm not sure why I started writing this from the squirrel's perspective, but I think it could actually work...but it would take a lot more work on the tone to get it right. This is either a very strange animal-POV intro to the story, or a novelty animal-narrated mystery/thriller. It could qualify as one of the darker YA novels, I suppose.
