The stamp appraiser bent over his microscope. "Yes," he murmured to himself, oblivious of his audience. "Yes, this is the one. Note the perforation irregularity near the offset edge. Observe the slight crossing of the lines above the eye." He looked up. "I am most envious of your purchase. You did indeed receive what you had hoped for."

"Very good."

The client bent and with one swoop of his hand swept the stamp from the sight of the appraiser forever. Involuntarily, the appraiser leaned forward, as if the magnetic pull of the stamp was one that he could feel through his whole body. Ignoring the collector's agony, the client turned and left the shop.

"One ingredient down," he muttered.


Inspiration: A sheet of stamps on the desk in front of me.
Story Potential: Medium.
Finished Length: Short story.
Notes: Could be fantasy, with the ingredients needed for a spell. Could be mystery, with the ingredients needed for an elaborate set-up or conspiracy. Also, I didn't post this originally, but I did actually write it on the second.
