The Walk Home: Science Fiction
Aug. 7th, 2005 10:41 pmThe silvery skin of the burrito peeled back, letting fly a cloud of steam vapor as the heating element kicked in. Rico smiled. After a long night's shift at the factory, he enjoyed the twenty-minute walk home to his pod. He could have taken the lev, but he'd rather walk. It gave him a few precious minutes to himself before he reached the crowded pod he lived in. He'd never disrespect his mama, but sometimes he did wonder what she'd been thinking when she had the max number of kids allowed--and invited their kids in to live with her when they repro'd, as well as his aunts and uncles. He had to admit, it was never dull. Uncle Juan kept things lively with his constant misadventures, and Aunt Juanita always had a remedy for anything that went wrong, but--

Notes: Really, really need to research Hispanic names to write this. Rico, Juan, and Juanita? Gimme a break. Not sure where this is going, but I'd like to find out. I like the setting, I like the character, and I think it could be interesting.
