Clown and Bear: Genre Undetermined
Sep. 22nd, 2005 10:36 amThe clown hopped onto the bear's back, set his hands on the bear's shoulders as if they were his wife's, and then opened his eyes wide in feigned shock, throwing his hands back and flying off the bear's back in a handspring. The bear walked around the ring, wearing the apron with a massive unconcern for appearance. The crowd roared, and one wit tossed a bottle onto the dirt floor with the cry, "Here, sweetheart, have some of the good stuff! It's what my wife uses to get through the day!" That provoked another laugh from the crowd, and some suggestions about what else his wife used to get through the day. Sensing danger, the ringmaster stepped out and signaled the clown and the bear to retire.
Inspiration: The birthday calendar in my study, which is still trapped in August. The picture shows a clown.
Story Potential: Medium. Not good, not bad, not wholly sure where it would go from here.
Finished Length: Short story?
Notes: Weird flitting thought that the bear and the clown really are married. Were-bear? Or it could just be a circus show, y'know. Hmm. The circus is a rich environment, and easy to plumb, but this is nothing more than the sounding charge, to mangle my metaphors. Also? I completely forgot my writing exercise yesterday, and I'm cranky about that. It's not like I was too busy or anything, even.
