The bell rang and rang, but nobody came to the door. Mandy looked at Alicia and shrugged. "Maybe nobody's home," she said. "She has to be home," protested Alicia. "She always buys ten boxes of the peppermint cookies. We were *counting* on that. Come on, let's go around to the side window and look in." The girls scurried around to the corner of the house and found a window that wasn't covered completely with a curtain. Alicia pressed her eye to it first, and then waved Mandy forward, an ashen look on her face. Inside the darkened room, Mandy saw Mrs. Batulia sitting on a chair, her arms and legs duct-taped to the sides. They'd had a little discussion in Girl Scouts about how useful duct tape was, but nobody had mentioned this application.

Inspiration: Musicmatch gave its little musical chime as it started up.
Story Potential: Low for regular purposes, I think, but high for flash fiction.
Notes: Either the peppermint cookies are important and useful, or the girls just rescue her and she buys twice as much in gratitude.
