Sarah didn't notice the mushroom ring until it had grown up to above the height of her socks. At first, they were just little tiny pink mushrooms that were kind of cute. That was all she thought about them until she bent to pull up her socks on her way to school and saw that the cute pink mushrooms had become fuzzy red mushrooms that were nearly as tall as her socks when she was standing beside them. She kept an eye on the mushrooms after that. She'd seen some pretty big ones in pictures and growing high up on trees, so she wasn't really worried until one day when she realized that they had grown up to her knees. She was quite certain that her teacher would have mentioned if there were mushrooms that grew that big in her hometown. That night she looked in the encyclopedia that she'd gotten for Christmas--

Inspiration: Wanted to try something a bit different--a kid's or YA story.
Story Potential: Medium-high?
Notes: Some of the hardest stories are best told from a younger perspective. Not sure if I want to steer this into Triffids territory or keep it away.
