Street-level: Science Fiction
Jan. 23rd, 2006 10:51 amTowering glass skyscrapers loomed above the asphalt streets, a perpetual reminder of how much they had lost. Scarab glowered up at them. The comps controlled all the skyscrapers. Not a single motion-activated door would open to a hums touch. Not a single store would release what was needed. Not a single dispenser would hand out vit-pills. The comps had taken over the skyscrapers. The hums were condemned to live in the streets and in the old buildings that hadn't quite been torn down yet. Scarab sauntered across the street. A video camera rotated to follow his path, and he gave it the finger. Some would plead with the vids when they knew that they had an audience. "Let me in, let me in, I'll be a good little pet." Not him. Not by half.
