Valuable Ink: Science Fiction

The twitch and spasm was glorious, he thought as he inserted the shock rod into the glowing tank once more. It was agony and ecstasy combined in holy union. He thumbed the button on the end of the shock rod to send a current of electricity into the glowing blue fluid that the beast wallowed in. The creature convulsed once more, sending out rich streamers of gold that sifted through the blue flood to rest on the bottom of the tank. It was their salvation, he thought. Had it not been for their discovery of the particular property of the ink that the creature expelled when in pain (and who had tried that, he wondered), they would have been condemned to a class four planet, good only for heavy mining.

Notes: Might be a good worldbuilding background, though.
