Apr. 30th, 2006 01:39 pm"Where are your shoes!" her stepmother snapped when she saw Linda lying flat on the floor, her chin pillowed on her hands, her eyes gazing into the distance, her bare feet crossed at the ankle. "I don't know," Linda said, after a minute of thought. "I think I traded them to the fairies for a crown." she pointed to the garland of baby's-breath and roses that sat on top of the thick gold of her hair. Her stepmother gasped, her hand flying to her mouth, and stepped backwards as if the taint of contagion would stick to her. Linda had never been what one would call a particularly well-rooted girl, but she'd never done something that was so--
