She knew that going in. She knew that it would take time for her to adjust to it, and she accepted it. It would have been nice if she'd warned me that it would take quite so much time. He put his fingers in his ears as his wife screamed with the agony of a woman giving birth, though she had been these past ten years barren. It was the comparison that the witch had made, when she told his wife what it would be like. His wife had shrugged it off; both their children had slipped from her as easily as eels.
