The shame came upon her with the falling of the autumn leaves, as regular as the migration of the geese. It was the shame of knowing that she had failed once again, that her brothers would leave and fly away, that when she saw them again, they might be missing a brother, or injured, or merely desperately tired. Already, she had lost one brother--she knew he had fallen to a hunter's arrow, for there was no other reason she could think of that would have kept him from her. All her brothers clustered around her, protecting her and aiding the great work, as best they could, right up until the imperative of flight was too strong for even their human instincts to control. They then would bid her a sad farewell, and make sure that she had plenty of firewood and canned food. They would nibble on her hair and stroke her cheek with their beaks--

Notes: Retelling of the seven swans fairytale. Not very interesting, though I kind of wonder what that missing brother is up to.
