The sky shone purple through the sunglasses that she wore to guard her eyes against the lightning storm's lethal flashback. "Shawnee!" she called. "Where are you? We have to go to the shelter!" She found her little sister sitting on the top of the slide, staring blindly down its length, and she knew that she was too late. "Oh, Shawnee," she said, wrapping her arms around her sister, "why did you have to be caught in a storm?" "Mary?" Shawnee asked. "Why can't I see the playground? And what are the floaty lights?"
