Colonizing Fairyland: Science Fiction

We thought they were so damn amazing and wonderful and cute at first. The first colonists even called them "fairies" because of the wings and the semi-human shape of their bodies, because of the way they flitted around in the twilight, glowing gently in a beautiful show of lights that made even the most cynical among them declare the fairies much better than earth fireflies. Inspiration: Oh, I was reading a book that had "modern" fairies and somehow that got me to the whole sci-fi angle. Unexpected.
