The Unreflecting Mirror: Horror

She knew every corner of it, from the tall armoire in the corner to the circle mirror that hung above her bed. She saw her own reflection in that mirror every night, just before she went to bed, and it was her safety--she could look in the mirror, and she would know that she was not one of the bad ones, that she was still herself, still had her soul, still had the dream of tomorrow’s dawn. And yet, tonight, there was no reflection in the mirror. It was hollow and empty, showing nothing but a dented pillow, as if a head lay there, or had lain there, but was there no longer. She felt a scream bubbling up inside her. It could not be. She could not have reached such a great age--the full twenty-seven years!--and--
