She'd weighed as heavily as she could on her authority just to get them to build their own outhouses instead of letting the children go where they would as the adults concentrated on more important matters than digging a latrine. At first, there had been outrage and the very notion of taking valued planters and defenders out. Who cared about a latrine when there was the very real possibility of starving or being slaughtered down to the man woman and child for what paltry food they had managed to hoard? They had all survived the first turmoil; they were no longer picky about things like a perfectly cleaned sanitary flush toilet or even a--
