Story Potential: High.
Notes: Nifty. An outside influence leads all those who see it to slaughter their young. Why? Not Pure Evil--too boring. Maybe as the vanguard of a wave of invasions? Get the inhabitants of the place you're going to to slaughter their young (would have to be repeatedly), so that when you reach them, there's only a population of broken oldsters. Then--populace figures out need to protect children from the adults, how? What sort of society would result? Nifty. Horrific, too.
