If Gibreel died, could India be far behind? They hovered beside his bed, waited in the streets outside his house, and it seemed that the whole country held its breath. Hawkers spoke in hushed tones near his house, beggars forgot their lines, and even the incessant monkeys stilled their chatter when they ran along the rooftops nearby. The whole country waited, holding its breath. So at first it seemed to be a wonderful and miraculous thing when the doctor came out and proclaimed that Gibreel would live for many, many more years. All knew that if not for Gibreel, China would have swallowed them. Somehow, he had managed a deal to keep India's hard-won independence. It was only after a couple of years, when the Prime Minister's health records were--

Notes: I don't know what this is, and it seems like it could be interesting, but not really the sort of story that I'd usually write.
