She was a child born of duty, and she knew it from a young age. Her mother was not in love with her father, although she may have once nurtured hopes of love being born from their union. Her father did not love her mother, either; how could he have loved a woman old enough to be his mother? His own daughter was closer in age to him than his wife was. He had been only fourteen when they'd been wed, and fifteen when his daughter was conceived. That much at least they had managed between them, but though it had raised hopes of a breeding pair, or so the daughter heard whispered when the attendants thought she wasn't listening, it had led to no further offspring. Now the child was almost the age that her father had been when he was married, and she listened very carefully for any hints--

Notes: Eh. The only interesting bit is the "breeding pair" part, and that's still been done to death.
