Baby got back late enough in the day that Mom was pacing around the empty tenement house, wearing a hole in the floor. Her tentacles lashed out at cobwebs, reacting to the irritation that Mom felt. Dad was sitting on the collapsed couch in the corner, staring at the broken television lying askew in the corner. His briefing indicated that this was how the average male spent his evening, but he had yet to figure out why. Baby walked in the door, unrolled her skirt to let it fall to her ankles, and pulled the handkerchief off that covered her hair tentacles. The tentacles stretched and kinked, tired of lying flat under the head covering all day long. One of the reasons that they'd chosen to come to this place was that it was acceptable for females of the species to cover up their hair. Their tentacles might disagree. "How was your day, honey?" asked Mom, stepping forward. "And why didn't you call? Your cellphone's broken, suddenly?" Baby shook her head. "No--
