Witch Subsidy?: Fairytale retelling

She had her special cabbage-growing program, her potions for easy childbirth, and her long-hair salve. None of them were cheap. All of them had been subsidized until recently. Witches tended to be as subsidized as they needed; nobody wanted a free-lancer running around with a need for money, certainly not one who had the same difficulties with money and keeping straight what one should and should not do for it. Like her. Until now, her earlier exploits had been enough to keep her well-supplied. She sighed. It looked like those glory days were gone, and there were two things she could do about it. She could bite the bullet and--

Notes: Could be kinda funny, I guess. The basic idea is pretty simple; witches are subsidized in all their research endeavors to keep them from doing unsavory things just to make money. This has failed. Could be a funny retelling of Rapunzel, but...meh.
