Jan. 12th, 2009 03:10 pmMaybe it was because they were so small and helpless that she felt compelled to protect them. They were cute little things, not at all like the ones she'd seen on the news. These ones didn't look like they could hurt a fly, much less swallow full-grown humans. They even had little tufts of hair around their ears that they purred and pressed against her when she touched. They would twine around her legs when she got their food out--she'd gone to a library in another town to do the research on what the aliens might eat other than people, just to be safe. She didn't want any men in black getting their hands on her darlings. She wasn't sure how old they'd get before they started to understand, so she treated them like a dog or a parrot in terms of training and intelligence. They started to get a little brighter when they were about the size of a German shepherd--that was also when she started feeling bad for keeping them penned up inside her house or out in the back lot at night, when nobody would be able to see them because of--
