The malice factor was what he needed to determine. It changed everything about their strategy, but how could he even go about determining whether or not there was malice in a being that wiped them out whenever it found them. Was it accidental or malicious or something beyond human comprehension? First he watched it among its own, and that was no easy task. Finding where they'd all congregated--Utah, of all places--and watching to try and figure out the structure among them without getting killed, that was the first hard thing. He became a little fascinated with the insights into their society that he picked up, or maybe that he fabricated out of thin air, it was hard to tell sometimes.

Inspiration: My own comment on an lj post--"malice".
Story Potential: Low
Notes: Eh.
