The worms squirmed up the tree and into the nest, and Twitter hopped frantically back and forth trying to peck them to death before they reached its eggs. It was all well and good to have developed a pheromone that attracted worms, right up until you were trapped where they could reach you. The eggs shouldn't have carried the pheromone. Her last hatch hadn't. But these--worms wrapped around them, trying to ooze into the shell. Soon, they'd find a tiny chink and pour through, hatching her chicks prematurely and smothering them. Twitter squawked angrily and danced a ferocious war dance, but it only pumped out more pheromone--
