The giants were long gone, he was sure. He was almost sure. The giant table and the chair still sat inside the ruin of a house larger than anything else he could imagine, but grass had grown across the floor and a sapling sprouted from the chair, while flowers bloomed on a plateau atop the table. They must be gone, right? They would never have let their house fall to Nature like this, not the giants, those rigorous banishers of nature in all its forms. The theory was that since the giants couldn't truly appreciate the small beautiful details of nature, they hated it. Some giant trees they let stand--the redwoods appeared to be to about their scale--but everything else was trampled under their feet, or dug up, or paved over--
