Cross-Stitch Communications: Fantasy
Oct. 25th, 2013 11:56 pmThe cross-stitch samplers became a way of communication between them, a secret language that the others couldn't penetrate--or rather, wouldn't, simply because they didn't care about what two women did for cross-stitch. It was a decorative thing women did, they were women, so it made sense. Who cared what hostages did anyway? They were spell-bound not to speak, not to escape, not to do anything that might endanger their hosts either before the hostage situation resolved or after it. A thread of blue mixed with green meant "caution," a bright yellow alongside an orange meant "hope." There were many other small signals, and to tell true, they did eventually alter the color of the cross-stitch samplers from side to side, when one side had dark red flowers that gradually brightened as they moved across the tapestry. It lent an eerie feeling to the work that they completed--
