Stained Glass Harvest: Science Fiction
Jun. 18th, 2007 11:06 pmThe stained glass windows shone like gold as the late autumn light poured through them, making the sheaves of wheat glow from within with a holy light that he'd never seen in actual harvests, not even by day's end, when the suns sank lower in the sky and everything seemed to be a little brighter. The weariness and the pain in his back by that time was enough to make him ignore any such signs and look only for his chit to get a draft of beer from the tavern. It was little enough, and he knew it, knew somehow within himself that working th harvest was a hard enough job that payment should be more than a trencher of bread with stew and--

Notes: Ah, subsistence colonization. That's gotta suck. Kinda interesting to read about, though. I really like the title....

Date: 2007-06-19 07:17 pm (UTC)Yeah, that's why it's safe. This time. Sometimes when I respond to these I get craaazy ideas that appeal to me or spin up in discussion and it always seems to hit that midline of theft vs. inspired-by.
