Elayna nodded her head as she watched her latest protégé mix up a facial powder promising that Garbo glow, just like the silver screen but in your own home. She'd been irritated with Garbo ever since the upstart decided to publicly switch her loyalty to Nick Lovarte's brand of cosmetics. Elayna had given Garbo that ethereal glow that made her such a star attraction, but Garbo had forgotten. Elayna couldn't do anything about that, but she could damn well make sure that the next time a housefrau was asked where she got her makeup, Garbo's name would come in to it. She'd seen lesser things bring down a star. "Very good, Julie," she told her assistant. "But I have a special custom batch of makeup to whip up now, so just run along. I'll be out in a minute." It only took her a moment to lock the door behind Julie. As soon as she was sure nobody could be watching her, she took out a simple key and unlocked a cupboard in the far wall. "Dear papa," she breathed, "you never imagined that passing along your chemistry knowledge to your daughter would prove so useful." She took down the jar labeled, "Prussic acid."
