Parking Lot Attack: Urban Fantasy
Jul. 23rd, 2005 01:25 pmThe harsh neon glare of the supermarket's sign spilled orange light across the rain-slicked tar of the parking lot. She opened her trunk and set the three bags of groceries inside before turning to wheel the rattling metal cart to its parking spot. She didn't even hear him coming. Her only warning was a sweep of black cutting through the orange neon reflection of the sign. She hurled herself to the ground, feeling a cold draft across the back of her neck. Abandoned, the shopping cart rattled slowly to a stop many feet away. Without even looking up, she scrambled to her feet and bolted for the supermarket. Inside, in the fluorescent lights and the dim muzak playing on an infinite loop, surely she would be safe? There was no room for his kind there.
