Riding the Mechanical Bull: Urban Fantasy
Aug. 19th, 2005 09:56 amBack in the saddle again, he mused as he swung his leg over the mechanical bull's back. He should have known it wouldn't last, the freedom. The bar regulars held large mugs of beer and watched him with stony eyes. He remembered when he'd first wanted to ride the bull. He'd been just a little kid, maybe five, trailing in after his dad who wanted a cold one. It hadn't been like this then. There had been a tall man riding the bull and he looked like he was having the time of his life. The others in the bar hadn't been all stony-faced silence. They'd been laughing, cheering him on, and turning away to talk with them friends. Of course, that had been before all their livelihoods started to revolve around the mechanical bull.

Finished Length: Short story?
Notes: Urban fantasy. Think somewhat Charles de Lint but more Tim Powers.
