Hide-and-Seek: Science Fiction
Sep. 5th, 2005 06:58 amThe count echoed through the empty hallway. One, two, three, four, five. The scientist sprinted down the hall and dove into a laboratory. He glanced hastily around, his hair a tangled mass that hadn't been washed in days. It fell over one eye and he pushed it away with shaking fingers. There was a workbench across the room and he ran and crouched behind it. Six, seven, eight, came the chant from the hallway. The scientist closed his eyes and prayed. Nine, ten, eleven, the thing sang to itself in a little girl's voice. The door to the laboratory creaked open. The scientist opened his eyes. "I've found you, doctor," the child said. The scientist shook in fear behind the laboratory table. "You're behind the table," she said and laughed a tinkling laugh. The light tread of her feet was--
Inspiration: There was a song. It involved counting.
Story Potential: Medium-high. Not super-snazzy, but it does give me ideas.
Finished Length: novel?
Notes: not actually a horror story. she says the game is over and the scientist returns to himself. a child with the power to make reality what she wills. could be creepy and offers many chances for Cyteen-esque fear. Ooo. could be neat. Also, this is yesterday's exercise.
