"Just tell me why?" he demanded, standing in front of the door. "Why leave now? Things were going well. We didn't fight, we didn't mess around with other people--I just don't understand it. Why?" She put her free hand on her hip and considered him. Her other hand was holding a packed suitcase. His forehead was wrinkled with distress, his green eyes were clouded with worry, and she saw that his hands were shaking slightly. He wasn't exaggerating. He didn't know why, and it seemed like he couldn't stand that. She sighed. She couldn't tell him the real reason; worst case, he'd refuse to believe her and insist on following her. She knew him; he could track like nobody she'd ever known, and if he set out to find her, he would. Her heart froze at the thought. If he found her, he would die, and she couldn't bear that.

Inspiration: "Never Can Say Goodbye" - Isaac Hayes
Story Potential: Medium-high?
Finished Length: Novel.
Notes: Not a retelling of a fairytale, but a similar structure to a fairytale. She isn't precisely human, or if she is, she's committed to go--somewhere (Faerie?)--that really isn't. Classic structure of love having to face challenges to retrieve the object of affection.
