Trick or Treat: Fantasy/Horror
Oct. 31st, 2005 10:15 amThe jack-o-lantern lit the pathway up to the witch's house in an eerie orange glow that made Hattie shiver. Trick-or-treat, the little kids in the village would be saying as they knocked on doors to beg for sweets. Trick-or-treat. She was knocking on the witch's door, but the witch was the one who would decide whether she got a trick or a treat. It wasn't like she could threaten to throw rotten eggs at the witch's house. All the kids remembered what had happened to Billy after he'd done that. Still, she had to knock on the door. One night a year, on Halloween, the witch would accept visitors. She would hear their stories, and then she would decide: trick or treat?
Inspiration: Well, duh! I wanted to do something appropriate for the day.
Story Potential: Medium-low. Might work as a short-short, or as a horror story. I like the set-up, so I'm not sure why this isn't high potential for me, but it just isn't.
Notes: None.
