The cabbie pulled over with a death-defying swerve that nearly decapitated a small poodle. The little old lady the poodle owned clasped him close with an outraged gasp. "Fluffy!" she shrieked. "Yeah, lady," the cabbie said, leaning out his window to survey the near-damage appreciatively, "that was really a close one." She blinked at him. "I mean, you've got such a cute pup there. It would've been a real shame if something had happened to him." Before she knew it, she was nodding her agreement, though there was a vague look of confusion in her eyes. "Yes, he's been such a comfort to me, ever since my husband died."
