Berry in the Big City: Fantasy
Mar. 23rd, 2006 04:28 pmA berry dropped to the ground in front of her. She stared up in shock. All that met her eyes was skyscrapers. There wasn't even any real ground beneath her, only the concrete sidewalk. There were no ornamental bushes or trees nearby, much less any that bore berries. And yet, there it was. A berry. Its stem was still attached; it looked as if it had just fallen from the tree. She picked it up hesitantly and stood staring at it as other people pushed past her. For a moment, she was a mote of stillness in the middle of a busy swarm. So it's started again, she thought. They found me even here. She carefully tucked the berry away in her purse--even if it had been a sign from her enemies, she still might find a way to use it against them--and--
