The elevator slid on its tracks like it was greased lightning, she thought with some satisfaction. That had been a hard year's engineering to get the intersections and timing worked out so it was perfectly safe but could move in four dimensions. She leaned back in her chair and waved one finger in the signal to close the image visualized above. It was perfectly safe, too--that had been the really tricky part. They'd been able to move between the dimensions for nearly a decade, but most of it still had to be done by foot. Even the escalators hadn't worked as well as could be hoped--every year brought another story about a child snatched from its mothers arms by a scaly green-eyed monster and never seen again, or a young woman who leaned over the side rail and lost her arm to a carnivorous flower--
Inspiration: Jah Wobble's "Elevator Music" and a last-minute visualization of Willy Wonka's glass elevator
Story Potential: High, I think? It's certainly weird and different enough. There's lots of stories of people wandering accidentally into different worlds...on foot.
Notes: Yes, do do actual research into branes and dimensional theory. Then mutate it horribly, possibly involving magic. Of course, something will go horribly wrong with the elevator. It's her fault, and she has to figure out why. P.S. Don't forget to make it funny.
