May. 18th, 2006 11:02 amWhen the time came, she rose from the flagstones that she'd knelt on to pray for the past two hours and went to the kitchen to retrieve a pitcher of tea. The sun beat against the smooth part in her black hair as she crossed the yard again, this time with cooling tea. The chuff of her skirt stirred up little swirls of dust that followed her like playful kittens. Her mood, however, was the farthest thing from playful. She climbed the stairs that led up to the guest's room and dutifully knocked on the door. Even demons should be given proper courtesy, she believed. Did not the book--
