Nullivore: Horror or Science Fiction....
Aug. 22nd, 2006 05:05 pmThe seafood pasta stared back up at her with wide eyes. She looked down at it. It blinked at her. She shoved it away from herself and stood.
"That's it," she announced. "I can't do it anymore."
Her husband looked up at her with uncomprehending eyes. "Do what, darling?" he asked.
"Eat," she answered. "I just can't."
He looked across the table at her seafood pasta. The shrimp remained curled in their naked, pink glory.
"Why not?"
"Because it's disgusting." She didn't mention that the shrimp had just winked at her. She didn't need to tolerate his worried looks.
"Maybe you just need to not eat shrimp?" he ventured.
"No."
Inspiration: The large numbers of my friends who are vegetarian/vegan, along with thoughts of how *every* food becomes disgusting if you parse it down far enough.
Story Potential: High.
Notes: Could be horror, could be science fiction...could be both. Could even be both, I suppose. Suffice it to say, somehow she finds a way to stop eating--and survives, though in what form, I'm not sure.
