Lying Lover's Knot: Romance

The twist in her hair was what brought them together. It was a simple lover’s knot, tided in with a white flower to let it be clear that she was available and interested in love, not claimed, pure. He saw the flower and the lover’s knot and found himself unable to resist her lures, so innocently cast. He followed her, spoke to her duenna, paid court to her in the proper style, found himself welcomed by her family, found himself enamored of her sweetness, and eventually wed her. On their wedding night, he discovered that the white flower tucked into her lover’s knot had lied. She was not pure, and innocent. She was not wholly debauched, but she was far from the delicate flower that he had imagined her. She had deceived him so thoroughly that he could not trust any word--
