Survivor Diplomat: Science Fiction
Jan. 20th, 2007 02:33 pmLeaving early was all that saved her skin when the nargleh decided suddenly and abruptly, as was their way, that they would no longer abide by the foolish human things called “customs”. They pulled out their blasters and began firing at the state officials who were carefully unsealing the packed crates. The crates themselves were riddled with bullets, undoubtedly destroying anything inside, but the state officials were dead. She would have been dead, too, if she hadn’t taken an early break just when the nargleh came into the station. She handed in her resignation the next day, only to be told that not only was she no longer allowed to resign, she was officially appointed as liaison to the nargleh. When she tried to protest, tshe was told that she was now uniquely qualified.
Inspiration: An email from somebody saying they were leaving early.
Story Potential: High.
Notes: Not necessarily this story, but I like the idea of a culture wherein those who survive an attack are particularly esteemed. It could lead to all kinds of bizarre interactions and difficulties if the survivors of brutal slaughters were the ones who had to handle diplomatic discussions.
