The Abyss Out Back: Horror

We kids would perpetually dare each other to walk closer and closer to the edge, until one of the adults came out and yelled at us. Somebody actually fell in, twice. The first time, it was an accident. The adults were so very angry with us, but they were scared too, and that frightened us more. The second time, I jumped. I plummeted into the abyss when I was only sixteen, after the boy that I'd decided I loved forever cheated on me with an older girl who, rumor had it, would go all the way. Then I knew that he'd never really loved me; if he had, he wouldn't have fallen so easily. I tried to listen to everybody when they said that I would feel better eventually, that everybody had their--
