The children entered the holiest of holies, the sepulcher of light, with tears in their eyes. They snuffled to themselves as they walked in the single file up to the high priest. Their parents knew the importance of following the traditions that kept them safe, that kept the evil dark at bay, but they could not help showing their fear and sorrow as they sent their children away to the stained glass harvest. The high priest did not even try to smile, to reassure the children. He felt it would by a hypocritical savagery to try and sooth their fears, when some of what they feared was very real indeed. He knew that younger children would dare each other to run past the sepulcher, as if it were a boogieman that would reach out--

Inspiration: Ha! Ok, now I'm wandering into thought experiment territory. "Stained glass harvest" is a pretty specific idea germ. Kinda curious about how many of these spin-offs I can get.
Story Potential: High.
Notes: They're doing some seriously messed-up shit, but they are actually on the side of good. I think. They take the children's eyes. And hair, and blood, and maybe a bright memory or six--things to power the stained glass bulwarks that keep them safe when surrounded by the dark. Stained glass armor for those who fight? I like this world idea. All sorts of painful, freaky things to play with, poke at.
