Blood Pineapple: A Christmas Story
Jul. 5th, 2007 11:48 amThe pineapple had been soaked in blood for several hours before she declared it fit to eat. Her grandchildren stared glumly. It may have been a Christmas tradition, but it was not one that anybody was fond of. It bore the worst aspects of fruitcake, blood pudding, and certain ancient rites of fealty and blood-brotherhood. There was a reason why they avoided bringing home friends for Christmas, and why each of them dreaded the day that they were enough in love to want to introduce their sweetheart to the family. The youngest granddaughter thought that she might just delay that introduction until *after* the wedding. Perhaps she could convince her husband-to-be that--

Story Potential: High, at least as a small detail or background setting.
Notes: Now, this is a fun family. Could be an interesting start to a Christmas story. We'll see. Reminds me a bit of some of Nina Kiriki Hoffman's books.
