Sea Swans: Fantasy
May. 21st, 2009 01:15 pmHis aunt, when consulted, went through her history books and checked and concluded that no, there should be no harm in it. And when there was no harm in it, which was (*almost*) all the time, it was wise to follow the requests of the sea swans. They came rarely, and always with gifts of great beauty or magic or power, and sometimes with requests, and very, very rarely, with requests that would cause unforeseen damaging repercussions to radiate through the human world. Usually it was good ripples, but sometimes, somebody somewhere would do something that needed balancing. And sometimes the balancing was hard and painful, but the sea swans always saw it in terms of where to drop the stone, to start the ripples in the sea, to cancel out the movement begun by another's act. It was no use trying to separate it out with them. For them, all was tide and ripples and currents and indistinguishable interactions that rippled and cross-rippled and led to trains of event and storms down the channel. And so it was wise to examine their gifts closely and carefully, and their requests even more so.
