The library was closed. He stood on the wide stone steps, looking up at the doors that had welcomed him for so much of his childhood, and stared. The library could not be closed. He'd returned as much or more to visit the library one last time as to see his estranged mother and half-sister. Cobwebs dangled from the noses of the stone lions in front of the building. No lights were on inside. A sign on the door, neatly hand-printed, read, "Demolition scheduled fro November 2." It was October 29th. He tightened his jaw and skirted the edge of the building. He'd picked up more than a few unconventional skills in his career with the Army, and he figured that an uncaring librarian would--

Inspiration: Adding a book to the list of things to borrow from the library.
Story Potential: Medium.
Notes: And then inside he finds something, and the library's demolition is revealed to be part of a Sinister Conspiracy. Or maybe he experienced something here when he was a kid. Mostly, this story reminds me that I should get cracking on Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas stories and get them out.
