The contract sat before her, unsigned. They waited. She felt a little nervous, though she'd asked for the contract herself, and taken all the tests, and done all the required study. "You know, once you sign the contract, you aren't guaranteed able to go back," the woman said gently. "If you step too far beyond, we can't unsign you under the same terms." "I know." She seized the pen and scrawled her name quickly across the bottom. The woman took the contract. "You have released us from all liabilities regarding your actions and wellbeing, and we have returned autonomy to you. Good luck!" She shook hands with the girl, who felt a momentary urge to twist the woman's hand--just because she could. No nannyware would stop her, no shrink sessions would result. She'd watched the documentaries on the other ones who'd signed out.

Inspiration: Signing a publication contract.
Story Potential: High-ish?
Notes: We generally think of contracts as being restrictive. How about an "un-binding" contract, one that just releases a nanny state from having to watch, guard, protect, or otherwise take care of and/or restrict an individual? Tie that in with some of the reality TV we get, and maybe there's something there.
Free will in "main" universe, but not in splinter universes. Might be one way to resolve time travel paradox, and could use both fixes for a bizarre result.

This post brought to you by me getting my CONvergence-inspired ideas in the same place as the rest of them!
