The meteor struck down just outside of town. Of course, the first thing that everybody did was grab their cameras and their kin and go out to see if they could get a picture of themselves with it, or maybe even get a chunk of it that they could put on the mantelpiece at home to point to and tell their grandkids, "I was there when the biggest meteorite ever struck down right outside town." Of course, none of them realized that going to see the meteor meant they weren't going to have any grandkids. Or kids. Or much of a life, not very long, anyhow. I was mighty pissed at my manager who made me stay at the counter pulling sodas for folks while he--

Story Potential: High.
Notes: Hmm. Something that doesn't kill outright? Maybe it's a...necrometeor! Or something less silly. But I like the idea of starting a story with a meteor crash outside of a small town. And then something terrible happens. Sometimes, tradition can be fun to play with.
