The litany running through her mind was so high and loud and noisy it drowned out everything else and raised her tension level high enough that no matter what the polygrapher did, none of the results would be significant enough to act as evidence against her. That was okay by her, she supposed, though it didn't seem to matter much. She was holding it together by focusing fiercely on holding it together. People didn't want to be arrested for murder, that was not a thing that people who held it together did, and so she--because she was holding it together,--wouldn't. It didn't seem to matter much. But she wasn't going to crack. The interviewer asked questions and she answered them with what a person who--

Notes: Nice character, but the story here's already done.
She bid her sanity farewell as a job condition. It made her pause, seeing it spelled out right there in black and white, but she'd known that was the case when she started her job training. It wasn't new, it wasn't unexpected, and it was something she thought she'd accepted. After all, she'd just spent six years training for it. Still, it gave her pause. Even at the academy, the instructors had spoken around the subject. It wasn't that they were uncomfortable with it, or not too much--it was that they felt that they couldn't say much about it. It was different for everybody; some didn't even remember it afterward. They went in to work, signed the contract, were hooked up, and twenty years later they emerged, looking the same age but rich and with a comfortable lifestyle that ensured they'd never have to work again.

Inspiration: Feeling like I'm kissing my sanity farewell because of how much I'm working.
Story Potential: High? Could be fun to write.
