Road Through the Forest: Fantasy
Feb. 13th, 2006 02:09 pm"Follow," the voice said, and she rose from her pallet by the hearth and crossed the rush-strewn floor to the door. She hesitated with her hand on the heavy bar that locked the inn at night, but the voice whispered in her ear again. She lifted the bar and walked out into the night, leaving the door unbarred and open behind her. A spill of firelight licked out to warm the night. She left it behind her quickly as she went in the direction of the voice. She crossed out of the village's gates and went into the dark forest that loomed on the edge of town. The forest surrounded three quarters of the town. The road wended by them and went into the forest. The road was the only reason that the town was here at all. Travelers on the road would need someplace to stay, and--

Notes: It doesn't seem like high potential, but something has been calling to me. I've had a couple of other bits involving a road and a forest. There's something archetypal in it that just...resonates.
